Model making

I adore model making, finding it a perfect way to express and react to the world around me. Watch out for the trains, though!

Locomotion and coal drops. 4mm scale

Locomotion should be familiar, but the coal drops are based on remains close to the North Road Railway Museum. They are amongst the oldest in the world. The model now lives with the owners of the terrace of houses that back onto this hidden treasure.

1860s locomotive. 7mm scale

This was built in response to a challenge to make a cheap 7mm locomotive kit. It is constructed from my favourite medium- card- with wagon wheels and a cheap motor. Despite this, it works very nicely!

WW1 trench railway.

Cardboard models again, 16mm scale. The figures are sculpted in fimo, then painted.

Warehouse and engine shed. 4mm scale

More card modelling, individually painted stones as usual!

Historical models. Roman fort and villa

Made from foamboard, egg box card and corrugated card, these models are to approximately 5mm scale. The fort and walls are from historical evidence based on Hadrian's Wall. The villa is purely representative, with a bath house again based on one near the Wall.
